Your TNW Weekly Recap - 6/28/2026

This is quite the late recap from last week but I was on a road trip with my son through Wednesday as we went from NJ to Chicago to hit the Pokemon exhibit at The Field Museum. We also hit Bucc-ee's for the first time on our way through Ohio. What a crazy experience, it was absolutely mobbed with people. The brisket sandwich was good though!

I wanted to send out this note and let you know that we have been working on how to evolve what we do from an email content perspective. Currently, we send out this weekly recap and we send out reminders on when we are doing events like Warehousing After Dark and livestreams. Hopefully you enjoy those and they are valuable to you right now.

We recognize that there is opportunity to bring you more educational content via email as well and over the next few weeks you'll see us evolving what that looks like. We did test an email "class" last year called Warehouse Wisdom Wednesdays which was well received and we want to do more things like that.

So here is what to expect over the next few weeks here:

  • We want to get to know you better so expect some polls and questions coming your way - this is to better customize what content and types of emails will come your way
  • Dedicated email series focused on specific topics - WMS selection, cargo theft, warehouse basics, leadership and more (if there is something specific you want to learn about, reply and let me know)
  • Options for email frequency - we realize that some may want to know every time an episode is released and some may just want the weekly recap, we want to cater to you

Hopefully this sounds like a good plan to you and you like where we are headed!

As always, if you have any suggestions or ideas on what you'd like to see from The New Warehouse, reply to this email and let me know.

Monday's Episode - Warehouse Innovation Starts with Solving Problems

Welcome to The New Warehouse Podcast. In this episode, Kevin speaks with Blair Healey, Supply Chain Implementation Manager at Sonepar US, Cam Dore, Director of Operational Innovation at US Electrical Services (USESI), and Chris Shannon, who oversees distribution center and transportation operations for USESI.

Recorded at the Kardex Experience Lab in Cincinnati, the conversation explores how leading distributors are approaching warehouse innovation through automation and AI. The discussion highlights the role of technologies in service levels, increasing capacity, and helping warehouse teams become more proactive and efficient.

Tuesday's Episode - ASRS Totes & Smart Containers: Don't Let Your Tote Create an Automation Failure

At Modex 2026, Kevin from The New Warehouse Podcast interviews Hugo Xavier Ramos from Georg Utz, an engineering-led manufacturer of returnable transport packaging (bins, totes, and trays) used in warehousing, automation, and intralogistics. They discuss why totes are a critical part of ASRS infrastructure—not just packaging—and why container selection should be considered early in system design, especially for customized applications. Hugo explains the risks of using off-the-shelf containers and key optimization factors such as size, load capacity, reinforcement, compartments, and application-specific requirements (e.g., apparel vs. heavy parts). He also highlights innovations in tote design using simulation for lighter, stronger designs, advanced material compounding for sustainability and cold-chain needs, and “smart” totes that communicate with automation via barcodes, RFID, and embedded devices that can detect actions like opening or temperature.

Wednesday's Episode - Retina Robotics Brings Computer Vision to Warehousing

Welcome to this episode of The New Warehouse Podcast, where Kevin speaks with Maanav Iyengar, Co-Founder and CEO of Retina Robotics. Founded by robotics engineers with firsthand exposure to warehouse operations, Retina Robotics makes automation more accessible through computer vision.

In this conversation, Iyengar discusses the challenges slowing automation adoption, how Retina Robotics is helping warehouses improve inventory accuracy, and why the company believes computer vision can transform inventory management.

Thursday's Episode - Modula’s Vertical Lift Modules, Modular Pallet Storage & the New FlexiBox for E-Commerce Picking

At MODEX 2026, Kevin from The New Warehouse Podcast interviews David Lind from Modula about Modula’s focus on vertical lift modules (VLMs) and how they fit across ASRS needs by maximizing vertical space with a small footprint and heights up to 63 feet.

David explains common VLM use cases—from maintenance and repair parts, assembly line picking, reels, wiring, and hardware retail—to larger applications like storing and handling pallets using a modular pallet system with interconnected units. He discusses U.S. demand drivers, including growing awareness and VLMs as “automation 101” that can enable broader automation and improve building utilization. For e-commerce and distribution, David highlights Modula’s FlexiBox, which delivers pre-sorted totes for faster, smarter batch picking.

That's it for last week's content and it is about time to get into the holiday weekend. Happy 4th to all our US friends and have a great weekend!

Thank you,

Kevin

What a week last week! In both a good way and a bad way. Haha. I had an amazing time out in the Midwest visiting Toyota Material Handling's North America HQ in Columbus, Indiana where they just opened their brand new manufacturing facility. There is a lot of talk about the Toyota Production System but to see it in action is pretty incredible and inspiring. Not only from the production processes but to the culture that is evident throughout the entire campus. We also hosted a Warehousing After...

The spectrum of services, technology and years in business is incredibly wide when it comes to 3PLs. Some have been in business for multiple generations and some were born out of the pandemic e-commerce boom. No matter where the 3PL is on that spectrum there is one thing for certain, DTC fulfilment is increasingly becoming a need to have service offering. As we head into the IWLA Fulfillment Forum next week, I'm hosting a panel tomorrow to discuss 3 of the top things you need to nail in order...

Last week I got the chance to reminisce about some of my first experiences of working in a distribution center. I was discussing my role as an inventory control specialist back in 2012 with a start up who is trying to solve for data gaps in warehouse systems (lots of gaps to solve there!). We specifically started diving into the inventory discrepancies that I was responsible for solving between the ERP system and the WMS. While it could be a maddening task some days, this experience is what...
