Your TNW Weekly Recap - 6/21/2026
Published about 2 months ago • 3 min read
First off, Happy Father's Day to the Dad's out there! I enjoyed mine with my son and my father the past two days. It's certainly my most enjoyable role to date!
Coming up this week we've got two special events that I want to make sure you are aware of:
Warehousing After Dark (virtual) is happening this Tuesday (6/23) at 8pm EST. If you've been on the fence about attending, it's an incredibly laidback atmosphere and everyone is there to just hang out. No constant pitching, no hunger to close deals. Just a chance to get to know each other and learn about different parts of the warehouse world. There have been great connections made from these events! Register here for free.
I'm going live with Rueben Scriven from Interact Analysis on Thursday (6/25) at 11am EST to discuss the warehouse automation market. Specifically, we'll be talking about the trends seen from the first half of the year and where they are leading us into the second half and 2027. There are some really interesting trends happening from their research and I'm excited to get to discuss them with Rueben live. Join on LinkedIn or YouTube and bring the questions!
I'm really looking forward to these two events so I hope you'll join us at one or both. I'm also looking forward to getting back into recording mode over the next month. We've got a great list of guests that are scheduled to record and I'm excited to be getting the chance to bring those conversations to you.
Do you have a guest that you would love to hear on the podcast? Reply to this email and let me know. Here's the catch: don't say yourself!
Monday's Episode - 3PL Customer Service Sets Great Providers Apart: Loki 3PL
Welcome to this episode of The New Warehouse Podcast, where Kevin chats with Rodney Galeano, Founder and CEO of Loki 3PL. Loki 3PL helps importers distribute and fulfill products across the United States, supporting both B2B and e-commerce operations.
Since launching the company just a year and a half ago, Rodney has grown the business into a new 100,000-square-foot facility in East Brunswick, New Jersey. In this conversation, he shares down-to-earth lessons from scaling a 3PL, what brands should look for in a logistics partner, and why customer service remains the most important differentiator in a crowded market.
Tuesday's Episode - MODEX 2026: Murata Breaks Down ASRS Types, Selection Criteria, and Safety Benefits
At MODEX 2026, Kevin from The New Warehouse Podcast interviews Jason Stahl from Murata Machinery, a privately held, family-owned Japanese manufacturer with 80+ years in storage and logistics automation, about automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS).
Jason explains key ASRS types: unit load for pallet and large-load storage leveraging high-bay height (100+ ft vs. ~35 ft manual), mini load for cases/totes under ~100 lbs, shuttle systems for significantly higher throughput, and gantry systems for layer picking (e.g., grocery trays) from above. He advises choosing ASRS based on load profile and required movement speed. The discussion highlights safety benefits including removing workers from forklifts and high-rack operations, reducing traffic, improving ergonomics by delivering goods at optimal height, and incorporating guarding such as fencing, netting, and light curtains to keep people out of danger zones.

Wednesday's Episode - Global Industrial: Warehouse Automation Solutions for Suppliers and Operators
Welcome to this episode of The New Warehouse Podcast, where Kevin chats with Steven Leeds, Senior Category Manager at Global Industrial. Global Industrial supplies more than 1.6 million products to warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturers, and other industries across North America. As both a supplier and warehouse operator, the company brings a unique perspective to the challenges facing the industry.
Thursday's Episode - Traditional ASRS vs. Newer Warehouse Robotics with Gebhardt at MODEX 2026
At Modex 2026, Kevin from The New Warehouse Podcast interviews Jack Beadle and Josh Helfand from Gebhardt, a family-owned warehouse automation OEM founded in 1952 and operating in the U.S. since 2003, with an AS/RS portfolio from unit load cranes to four-way shuttle pallet systems and shuttles for totes, cases, and trays.
They preview Jack’s talk on defining traditional ASRS versus newer robotic systems, highlighting how modern bots take on broader responsibilities and require sophisticated software for routing, traffic management, and dynamic slotting. The team also explains how Pinaxis supports projects through data gathering, integration across disparate systems, and simulations/emulations to avoid over- or under-automation, factoring in growth projections and cultural impacts on leadership and operations. Jack emphasizes considering ownership, supplier reliance, service, and software interoperability.
What a week last week! In both a good way and a bad way. Haha. I had an amazing time out in the Midwest visiting Toyota Material Handling's North America HQ in Columbus, Indiana where they just opened their brand new manufacturing facility. There is a lot of talk about the Toyota Production System but to see it in action is pretty incredible and inspiring. Not only from the production processes but to the culture that is evident throughout the entire campus. We also hosted a Warehousing After...
The spectrum of services, technology and years in business is incredibly wide when it comes to 3PLs. Some have been in business for multiple generations and some were born out of the pandemic e-commerce boom. No matter where the 3PL is on that spectrum there is one thing for certain, DTC fulfilment is increasingly becoming a need to have service offering. As we head into the IWLA Fulfillment Forum next week, I'm hosting a panel tomorrow to discuss 3 of the top things you need to nail in order...
Last week I got the chance to reminisce about some of my first experiences of working in a distribution center. I was discussing my role as an inventory control specialist back in 2012 with a start up who is trying to solve for data gaps in warehouse systems (lots of gaps to solve there!). We specifically started diving into the inventory discrepancies that I was responsible for solving between the ERP system and the WMS. While it could be a maddening task some days, this experience is what...
